Brenna Ivanhoe (b. 1984, Chicago, IL) uses historical methods of painting and ceramics, blurring the lines between both with paintings inspired by craft and ceramics informed by painting. They are all supports for each other.  Her work emphasizes flexibility and indeterminacy, embracing gesture and adornment.  She draws from simple symbols and shapes that echo and expand out to shared feelings of wonder, mortality, and unpredictability.

Ivanhoe earned a BFA from Carnegie Mellon University in 2006, and an MFA from California Institute for the Arts in 2015. In 2017, she had a solo show at Full Haus Gallery, which is archived on Contemporary Art Library.  She has also exhibited work at The Luggage Store Gallery Annex, The Situation Room, City Limits Gallery, Gallery Also, and Durden and Ray. Her work has been featured on Hyperallergic, NPR (KCRW), For Your Art, Art Business, and Art in America. Beginning in 2016, Ivanhoe served as the personal and studio assistant to artist Luchita Hurtado. Ivanhoe currently lives and works in Los Angeles.
